Bodyboarding celebs turn judges
The trio swapped their bodyboards for pens and paper.
A NUMBER of South Africa’s top celebrities took some time out from their busy schedules this summer to relax in the VIP chill zone tent at this year’s Tropika Summer Fever beach festival on Margate beach last week.
Among them were some of South Africa’s top bodyboarders, namely Storm Prestwich, Dane Klusener and Wesley Coetzee.
Klusener was the winner of the SA bodyboarding champs in 2013 and was the 2014 Southern KwaZulu-Natal dropknee champion.
“It was a real privilege for us bodyboarders to be involved. It was a great platform to interact with the public and get exposure for the sport,” he said.
Prestwich, who is a current SA team member, and recently competed in the ISA World Bodyboarding Champs in Chile, was also excited to be part of the action.
Meanwhile, Coetzee, who is the current club chairman, and a past SA champ, said it was great to meet fans of the sport and also to offer some lessons.
But the highlight of the day, however, was being asked to judge the Mr and Miss Tropika Summer Fever 2014.
There was plenty of other action for beachgoers, including the treasure chest hunt, limbo dancing, sandcastle building competitions, dance competitions, children’s dance lessons, volleyball and touch rugby.
