Fischer takes friends fishing
It was a birthday to remember, that's for sure.
A COUPLE of years ago Joshua Fischer appeared in an Australian newspaper when he won a trophy for the “best and fairest junior” at the Rainbow Beach Fishing Classic.
He was featured on the front page of the local paper, the Gympie Times, and was heralded for his sportsmanship and positive attitude.
His passion for the sport has not waned in the slightest. He has become a true bass fisherman and has taken part in both the Paddock and Port Edward bass competitions.
Joshua’s personal best bass is 3kg and the catch featured in the The Bass Angler magazine and SA Bass magazine.
Recently, he bettered this with a 3.5kg beauty.
He loves the sport so much, and getting others involved, that for his recent 13th birthday, he hosted a mini bass competition for his friends to encourage fishing in the younger age groups.
The day was a major success with some 35 youngsters taking part.
The Tackle Box in Shelly Beach was the main sponsor and Mark Bennett sponsored some fantastic fishing rods and tackle boxes as prizes.
Luckys Sport in Port Shepstone also sponsored some soft plastics and a reel rod combo as prizes.
Joshua thanked the Voigts family for letting him use the dam on their farm.
The day was centred around teaching those who did not know how to fish more about bass fishing and how important catch and release is.
Results: 1 Bradley Botha 0.68kg bass; 2 Jade de Beer 0.50kg bass (she was the youngest angler and also won the prize for most dedicated and persistent; 3 Chad van der Merwe (his first bass ever caught); 4 Dylan Shrives; 5 Jordan Bense.
