Feast of fishing coming up
The hugely popular Paddock Fishing Compo has finally arrived.
THE hugely popular annual Paddock Fishing Competition will be taking place this weekend, from March 27 to 29.
A total of 40 fully-stocked dams will be available for the weekend, as well as more than R70 000 worth of prizes.
There will be many lucky draws, including a main cash draw of R4 000 and two cash draws for R1 000 each.
Tickets for the fishing cost R60 each. Each ticket will count as an entry for the lucky draws, so the more tickets you have, the more chance you have to win.
Armbands (to gain access to the club and fishing at the dams) cost R20 (over 18) and R10 (under 18). Camping is R200 for the weekend per tent or caravan.
The briefing will be at the Paddock Farmers’ Club on Friday, March 27 at 7pm. No pets allowed. For more information and tickets, contact 083 2935265.
Meanwhile, the Hibberdene Ski-boat Club Game Fish Compo will take place on April 4 and 5. First prize is worth R10 000.
Launch sites are Hibberdene, Mtwalume and Injambili.
The briefing will be at the club lapa on April 3 at 7pm. Registration will start from 5pm.
Fishing will start from first light both days, and end at 4pm and 3pm on the Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The prize-giving will take place at the club lapa on the Sunday at 5pm.
All are welcome to stay for a bring-and-braai at the lapa afterwards. Bring your own refreshments as there will be no bar facility.
The entry fee is R150 per person. The event is limited to 50 boats.
Paddle skis and jet skis are welcome.

Port Edward
During these quiet months, reports have been few but many of the fishermen have produced good results and there are fish in the area.
Bronze bream are mostly on the list with fish of over the 2kg mark sometimes.
Hound sharks have made their appearance as normal for this time of the year and good-sized fish around 20kg are common with the occasional hammerhead shark also on the list.
Further south hammerhead shark catches are more plentiful.
