Beware of ‘manpower’ scam

One business fell prey to this alleged fraudster.

IT appears the Manpower Law Solutions scam is doing the rounds again.

Businesses are urged to be careful of a youngster posing as a labour official trying to sell labour legislations charts such as the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Employment Equity Act by claiming the current ones are outdated.

A business in Izotsha was recently swindled of R1 518 after they bought eight charts from a young man claiming to be ‘Brandon’.

‘Brandon’ arrived at the business together with another man supposedly named ‘Hans’, and a woman allegedly named ‘Alida’ travelling in a white VW Polo.

‘Hans’ and ‘Alida’ waited inside the car, while ‘Brandon’, convincingly sold them the charts written in three languages. He even issued them with an invoice headed ‘Manpower Law Solutions’.

A Port Shepstone businessman told the Herald earlier today that he had the exact same experience but had become suspicious as ‘Brandon’ couldn’t produce any official identification and was scruffily dressed.

He confronted the man and managed to snap a photograph him. The Herald sent the photo to the Izotsha business, who confirmed that this was the same person who had swindled them.

The same tactics used in other parts of the country were reported in online articles dating back to 2011.

The Herald was unable to contact the department of labour for comment.
