POLICE are really pulling out all stops to fight vehicle theft on the South Coast, constantly checking up on registration numbers while on patrol.
Sergeant Melvin Newell and Constables Randhir Dhaniram, Sydwell Mbhele and Mthembeni Ndlovu saw a suspicious-looking vehicle in the Marburg area while they were on a routine patrol recently.
They stopped the bakkie and checked its identification numbers, which did not correspond. Further investigations revealed that the bakkie’s chassis and other parts belonged to another vehicle which had been stolen from Paddock recently.
The vehicle was impounded and four suspects were arrested, said Port Shepstone cluster commander Major General Thembi Ndlovu, who praised the members for their diligence.
