Surprising twist in TLB sale

The body of a 34-year-old TLB operator was found dumped in a sugar cane plantation.

ARRESTED last Tuesday when he tried to sell a TLB to an undercover police officer in Sea Park, an Umzumbe municipal employee has now been charged with murder.

An undercover operation had been set up by officers from Port Shepstone Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Organised Crime Unit. The 31-year-old employee was arrested after he received an amount of R150 000 during a transaction whereby he sold a TLB to a police agent. Further investigation led police to a farm in Hibberdene where they found the body of Menzi Khuzwayo (34), the driver of the TLB.

“His hands and feet were tied and he had sustained a gunshot wound to the head,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

“It was further established that the TLB does not belong to the municipality, but to a private person. The arrested municipal worker appeared in the Hibberdene Court recently and the case was postponed for further investigations.

Meanwhile Menzi’s brother, Musi (38), said the family is still in shock regarding his brother’s murder. “What they did to him was shocking. My brother drove this TLB and loved his work, which supported his two children. In December he was going to get married,” said Musi.

He added that his brother’s body was dumped in a sugar cane field near Hibberdene. Menzi’s funeral will be held this Sunday.
