New recreation facility is officially opened at PS Secondary
A clever design transforms an open netball court into a multi-purpose recreational venue.
PORT Shepstone Secondary’s newly constructed recreation centre (platform for recreational, educational and cultural activities) was officially opened by Pastor Reggie John (former governing body chairman) and Shireen Ramkelawon (former principal) last Friday. They cheerfully cut the ribbons to the delight of all present at the ceremony. It was indeed a proud moment to be savoured. Pupils can now enjoy lunch breaks in comfort and shade.
The erection of this steel structure – a large area of about 800 square metres – became a reality with the tenacity and fortitude of Pastor Reggie John and his committee members. This vision was vigorously pursued in 2014. A sustained effort by contractors, Terry Moodley and Praveen Moodley, culminated in the completion of the structure.
The current governing body chairman, Praveen Maharaj, together with the acting principal, Genganathan Odayar and his staff and pupils, felt a wonderful sense of achievement at the official opening of the recreation centre. The first volleyball match played on the newly marked courts during the opening ceremony was watched with much excitement.
