South Coast students shine at national eisteddfod competition
Students performed well in a variety of categories.
Esayidi TVET College students shone at the National Eisteddfod 2026 competition at Motheo Academy in the Free State recently.
The competition began at local level at Esayidi TVET College Gamalakhe Campus, followed by a provincial round at Mnambithi TVET College, and the national round at Motheo Academy.
Londiwe Ngwazi from Kokstad Esayidi TVET Campus was the runner-up in the storytelling category, and her counterparts also excelled in other categories.
Amile Shoba from Umzimkhulu Campus placed first for poetry in the female category, claiming a trophy and a medal; Nokwanda Lushaba from Enyenyezi Campus won the Maths Literacy category and claimed a trophy and a medal; Bongumusa Matiwane from Port Shepstone Campus was runner-up in Maths Literacy; Muziwenhlanhla Msomi from Nyenyezi Campus was the runner-up in Sudoku; Kwandile Ngeleka from Port Shepstone Campus placed third in Maths Literacy.
Lushaba said it was challenging to work without a calculator in Maths Literacy. “I managed to find a solution as it was my dream to win and I achieved it.”
According to Ngwazi, students performed well, even those who did not win but who reached the finals.
Andile Cele, Manqoba Ngovu and Aphelele Zuma all reached the finals from Port Shepstone, Nyenyezi and Gamalakhe campuses respectively.
Esayidi TVET College lecturer Vuyokazi Mbewana congratulated students on their dedication, hard work, and flying the college flag high at national level.
“I congratulate Amile Shoba for first place in poetry and Nokwanda Lushaba for first place in Maths Literacy; you both made us proud,” said Mbewana.
