Hibberdene crime-buster stabbed while on patrol
He spent the night in hospital but is now recovering at home.
WELL-KNOWN Hibberdene resident Matthew Barry was stabbed in the neck while on patrol last night.
Matt, an active member of the crime watch group, AZASOS, was apparently in pursuit of suspects when he was ambushed. He was stabbed in the neck, resulting in him being hospitalised overnight.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said Matt had responded to a report of a possible break-in near the beachfront.
“When he approached the suspects, they ran towards the beach. He followed them and was attacked.”
Lt-Col Wiid confirmed that the assailants had fled with Matt’s cellphone. Cases of attempted murder and robbery have been opened, and police are investigating.
Matt is back at home – battered and bruised, but recovering well.
