Operation Basadi delivers results
A total of 213 vehicles were stopped and over 620 people searched.
A SPECIAL police operation conducted by women within the Margate police cluster was carried out recently. The operation was led by Margate station commander, Brigadier Morris Moodley.
The group of policewomen from various police stations including Paddock, Margate, Izingolweni, Port Edward and Gamalakhe were supported by a smaller group of policemen.
“Operation Basadi started off with a roadblock at Port Edward to combat the transportation of illegal firearms, stolen property and drugs,” said police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka. A total of 213 vehicles were stopped and over 620 people searched.-
Five people were arrested, four for being in possession of drugs and a 33-year-old man for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. All five suspects appeared in the Ramsgate Court.
Leaving Port Edward, the operation proceeded to the Gamalakhe area where further arrests were made at shebeens and homes. “This was a successful operation conducted by all,” said Capt Mfeka.
