AK47 recovered in raid

Three unlicensed firearms and ammunition were recovered from a home in Umbumbulu.

A JOINT operation has led to the arrest of a man (37) and the recovery of an AK47 rifle and two 9mm pistols at a house in the Umbumbulu area.

The joint operation was conducted by Margate Crime Intelligence, Port Security Services K9 Unit, Folweni SAPS and Cavendish police.

Police spokesman, Colonel Jay Naicker, said the firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes.

“Police went to a house in Umbumbulu after they received information about illegal firearms,” he said.

The house was searched and three unlicensed firearms and ammunition were recovered. The man will appear in the Umbumbulu Magistrate’s Court soon.
