AN Umtentweni man has been arrested and will face charges of cultivation of dagga.
Police busted his home-grown dagga plantation at a rented house in Sea Park recently after receiving a tip-off.
Warrant Officer Francois Pretorius of Port Shepstone K9 Search and Rescue and Sergeant Stanley Holloway went to the vacant house in Sea Park and discovered a gazebo structure in which there were 33 dagga seedlings.
The officers also found equipment used to grow dagga under regulated temperatures and conditions.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the plants and equipment were seized as evidence and Detective Warrant Officer Allen Horn from the Port Shepstone Directorate of Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) Organised Crime Unit was assigned to investigate the matter.
“A warrant of arrest was obtained and a 62-year-old man was arrested at his home in Abingdon Road, Umtentweni,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
She added that a further 21 dagga plants were found at the Umtentweni premises.
The accused appeared in court and was released on R3 000 bail. The case was postponed for further investigation.
