Beware of Ugu jobs-for-cash scam
Victims are promised that they will get the job if they pay R2 500.
UGU Municipality does not go around trying to recruit staff for an up-front fee.
If you have been conned into making such a payment to one of these ‘recruiters’, you’re going to be disappointed.
Be warned that these unscrupulous con artists are targeting desperate job seekers, promising them work with Ugu if they pay R2 500 in cash.
The ‘recruiters’ – obviously claiming to have contact at the municipality’ – said they would then forward applicants’ CVs to the municipality’s human resources offices.
“These so-called recruiters are going around telling members of the community that they know someone within the municipality who can organise them a job,” said Ugu spokesman, France Zama.
“The municipality wishes to warn the public not to fall for this scam. We call upon anyone who has information in this regard to contact the municipality’s human resources office at 039 6885885 to assist with the investigation. We also wish to advise that the municipality uses mainstream media and the internal vacancy circulars to advertise job opportunities.
“We would, therefore, like to emphasise categorically that at no stage will any municipal official request candidates to make payment to secure employment in the municipality, nor will any position be offered unless all recruitment procedures, including short-listing and interviews, have been duly conducted,” he said.
