Bail denied to Tweni child rape accused
Due to the sensitivity of the case, today's proceedings were held in camera.
NO spectators or media representatives were allowed in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court this morning when the Umtentweni businessman (43), charged with raping his five-year-old stepdaughter, made an appearance.
The court ruled that the matter be heard in camera, and that the man’s identity not be made public in order to protect the child.
Bail was denied and the man is expected to appear again on Friday, November 27.
He is facing six charges, ranging from rape and the possession and making of child pornography to grooming a child for pornography.
The child’s mother was supported by family and friends who expressed their anger and disappointment when the magistrate asked them to leave the courtroom.
