Burglar gets 15-year sentence
He pleaded guilty to the charges of housebreaking with intent to rob and robbery.
A MAN who was arrested two days after he had assaulted a 91-year-old Park Rynie resident during a house robbery earlier this year has been convicted and sentenced in the Scottburgh Regional Court.
During the night of April 14, two men broke a window to gain entry into the house where the victim was living with his 53-year-old paraplegic daughter. They demanded computers and money.
Sbusiso Sbu Chiliza (34) was subsequently arrested and appeared in the Scottburgh Regional Court on Monday, September 28, where he pleaded guilty to the charges of housebreaking with intent to rob and robbery and was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment.
The SAPS Ugu (formerly Port Shepstone) Cluster Commander, Major General Thembi Ndlovu, welcomed the sentence meted out by the court. “This is a very fitting sentence that would send out a strong message to the criminal world that we will not tolerate these ruthless attacks, especially on our vulnerable women, children and the elderly,” she said.
The case was investigated by Detective Warrant Officer Yugen Moodley of the Scottburgh Cluster Detective Task Team.
