Grandmother bludgeoned to death

More than a year later, a killer grandson has been brought to book.

THE man who killed his 83-year-old grandmother in Izingolweni in January last year will be behind bars for 25 years.

Last Wednesday, Izingolweni Court convicted and sentenced Sanele Alexis Xolo (25) for murder. The court heard how Gretta Malakeni Xolo was murdered by her grandson on January 5.

After asking her for money which she failed to hand over, Xolo kicked and punched the old woman.   When she fell,  Xolo attacked her with a hoe, beating her on the face, head and body.

His brother tried to stop him but was also assaulted, sustaining  internal injuries. The pensioner died at the scene.

Izingolweni police arrested Xolo within minutes. The case was investigated by Detective Constable Nokulunga Philile Zangwa.
