Update: Woman assaulted on Margate beach

The visitor pleaded for them not to be harmed.

ACCORDING to police reports on this morning’s assault at Margate beach, police are now investigating cases of robbery and  sexual assault.

“It is believed that a 22-year-old man , on holiday from Johannesburg, was with the woman at the time of the attack. The pair had apparently gone to the beach after visiting a local nightclub.

“While they were sitting on the beach  a man, holding something behind his back, approached them and asked for money,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

“He was joined by two other men who appeared from a nearby bridge. One had a broken bottle in his hand and the other had a knife. The men threatened the holidaymaker and one of the attackers sexually assaulted the woman. At that point the visitor pleaded for them not to be harmed,” said Lt-Col Wiid.

The three attackers then fled with a cellphone, wallet and cash. No arrests have  been made.
