A LIONS Grove store owner was held at gunpoint by six armed men who entered his café in Brighton Road on Tuesday morning this week.
“The robbers demanded cash and asked the whereabouts of the safe,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
The robbers fled in a champagne-coloured Ford Bantam bakkie, taking with them cash, jewellery, cigarettes, airtime and eight cellphones.
“Business owners have to be alert to possible robberies, as criminals will target premises where they suspect that there could be large sums of money at this time of the year.
“Robbers plan their attacks in advance and therefore people should be on the lookout for loiterers, possibly doing observations before they strike,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
She added that the police should be notified immediately if any suspicious people or vehicles were observed. She stressed that people should also keep a lookout for vehicles without number plates.
