‘Stokvel’ members warned
Criminals are aware of when and where withdrawals occur.
POLICE urge stokvel (savings) clubs to transfer funds electronically to their members’ accounts to avoid them being robbed of their cash.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said as the festive season once again approaches, many stokvel clubs will be distributing contributions to members.
“These are normally large sums of money and are distributed as cash payouts,” she said. “Criminals within communities are aware of when and where such withdrawals occur and plan robberies based on this information. Stokvel members must rather keep their money in the bank and not at home.”
