‘I will drive over and kill you’

DESCRIBED as ‘aggressive’, ‘arrogant’ and ‘rude’, a motorist driving a white VW Jetta is reportedly doing the rounds on the South Coast, threatening motorists and bikers.

The Herald also received information that this same man has been harassing businesses and women in the area for the last two months. Posts on social media have described him as someone who is ‘not normal’ ‘intends to do harm’ and is ‘bad, bad news’.

Margate detectives are currently investigating a case involving this man, who allegedly intimidated a couple at a Ramsgate petrol station recently.

Police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka, said the man had apparently accelerated deliberately towards the couple who were filling up with fuel, made a U-turn in front of them, used intimidating words and threatened to ‘drive over and kill’ them, before driving off.

“Detectives are still investigating and no arrests have been made so far,” said Captain Mfeka.

Earlier this month, members of Ramsgate Crime Watch (RCW) reported a very aggressive driver who threatened to knock over bikers just before midnight.

Morné Kruger, the  man behind RCW, said that within two minutes Ramsgate police, Maser Security, Wolf Security and three Ramsgate Crime Watch patrol cars were on the scene.

Mr Kruger said the man was taken to Margate SAPS where he was issued a R500 fine for reckless driving and the bikers opened a case of crimen injuria and assault against him.

“The security response group was a joint initiative between Wolf, Maser and all the local CPFs on the South Coast to try and combat crime,” said Mr Kruger.

He explained that each area has its own WhatsApp group, monitoring its area for crime, loitering, suspicious activities and so on.

“From each area four members were selected and were added to the security response WhatsApp group, which, in turn, communicates with Maser and Wolf security companies to coordinate where help is needed. In doing so we have been able to curb crime and apprehend many criminals,” he said.
