Update: Family massacre home wrecked
Nana Madondo, whose aunt was killed, said that the homestead was now uninhabitable.
THE homestead of the Mncwabe family, of which eight members were hacked and burnt to death over allegations that they were practising witchcraft, has been wrecked.
Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko visited the home on Monday, when it was discovered that the door of one of the huts had been forced open.
Windows were also broken and Nana Madondo, whose aunt was killed, said that the homestead was now uninhabitable.
The massacre occurred on October 21. Two young men are already serving seven life sentences for hacking the family members to death, burning an uncle alive in his hut.
Two young men from the family – who were not in the house that fateful night – have since relocated to other relatives.
Survivor Minenhle Mhlongo is still in a critical condition in hospital under police guard.
The minister said that there could be more arrests.
In his address to the community, he said: “These killings indicate that there is something wrong with our society.This can only be solved by good police work, underpinned by community involvement and participation.”
