Hibberdene woman in robbery ordeal

One of the intruders held a screwdriver to her throat.

IT was a close call for a 59-year-old Hibberdene woman who was attacked and robbed at her home last Wednesday night.

Four men gained entry to her house in Simpson Road, by smashing a glass door at about 7pm. According to the woman, her dogs started barking and wanted to go outside.

“All of a sudden I heard a loud bang and heard the sound of glass breaking,” she said. “I went into the kitchen and pressed the panic button which triggered the alarm. I was then confronted by four men. One of them came at me and held a screwdriver to my neck while two men stood in the lounge and the other went into the bedrooms.”

She explained that the man who threatened her kept on shouting for her rings and money. “He tried to remove the rings from my fingers but failed. I prayed and the rings came off easily and fell on the table,” she said.

While the intruders were going through the house, shouting, the woman kept on pressing the panic button, setting the alarm off.

“The man holding the screwdriver to my neck again asked for the rings,” she said. “I told him that they fell onto the floor and he started looking but couldn’t find them. I distracted him by saying that I had seen  lights coming towards the house.”

They left taking cellphones and a tablet and a few biscuits that had been left on the table. She described the intruders as aged between 16 and 19 years. No arrests have yet been made.
