Petrol price goes up

The main reason for the fuel price hike is the weakening of the rand against the dollar.

THE price of petrol increased by six cents a litre, and the wholesale price of diesel dropped by 62 cents a litre at midnight last night.

The Department of Energy’s Robert Maake says the main reason for this fuel price adjustment is the weakening of the rand against the dollar which has contributed close to 50 cents per litre on the prices.

“We have other contributing factors such as the oversupply of diesel in the international market; that’s why the diesel price is dropping by this amount,” he said.

The price of paraffin  decreased by 79 cents a litre, and that of illuminating paraffin  by between 59 and 79 cents per litre.
