GOOD sleuthing led a Margate detective to retrieve a large stash of dagga and 86 dagga plants worth R1 322 last week.
Detective Sergeant Michelle van Niekerk was on duty when she received a tip-off that Abubaker Cedrick Alexander (33) was seen carrying three bags of dagga near Spar in Manaba.
“When she searched the bags, she found 60 grams of dagga,” said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka. “However Det Sgt van Niekerk already had information that Alexander had dagga at his house.”
They then proceeded to his house on Alpine Road in Uvongo where she found 2.5 kilograms of dagga and 86 dagga plants. Interestingly, one dagga bush equals two kilograms of dagga with a street value of R1.60 per gram.
Alexander was arrested for dealing in dagga and appeared in Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court last Tuesday. He will remain in custody while further investigations are conducted.
*Last Saturday afternoon, members from Margate Organised Crime nabbed a drug dealer and recovered six Mandrax tablets and whoonga straws in Trafalgar.
