Africa Bike Week countdown begins

This popular event is a four-day celebration of all things two-wheeled.

FASTEN your seat belts for the countdown to Africa Bike Week, Margate’s most popular annual festival and the biggest free motorcycle rally in South Africa.

Brought to you by Harley-Davidson, partnering with the Ugu District Municipality, Hibiscus Coast Municipality and Ugu South Coast Tourism, the grand spectacle will be taking place for the eighth consecutive year in Margate from Thursday, April 28 to Sunday, May 1.

For the four festival days, Margate will be all about motorcycles as thousands of bikers and biking enthusiasts from all over South Africa roar into town. While Margate is the hub of the bike action, the bikers spread their wings and beautiful mean machines can even be seen on the smallest of the South Coast’s back roads.

For everyone living on or visiting the South Coast, Africa Bike Week is a glorious celebration of all things two-wheeled – and the vibe is second to none.

Ugu South Coast Tourism CEO Justin Mackrory said that once again the appeal of the South Coast and Margate in particular has resulted in the return of this ever popular mega event.

“The South Coast is thrilled,”said Mr Mackrory.

“Outrides and overnight stays in the majestic hinterland and to other parts are also popular with many specials on offer. When making their bookings, we really encourage visitors to explore the diversity of our region.”

Entertainment will keep visitors rocking well into the night with some of South Africa’s most popular bands. Well known deejays and personalities will take to the stage during the weekend. Organisers have indicated that the line-up at this year’s event will be the ‘best ever’ with some seriously superstar names being mentioned!

According to Vicky Wentzel of Wozani Africa events, some very exciting changes are being planned for this year’s event. “We are looking forward to working with the Harley-Davidson team to ensure the continued growth and success of this event,” she said.

The most impressive Africa Bike Week event is the traditional mass ride with thousands of bikers joining together to take part in an impressive 34km circular ride, starting at the Shelly Centre on Sunday morning, May 1. It is a sight that shouldn’t be missed.
