295 Sexual offenders arrested – in one month!
Two of the transgressors received double life sentences.
VARIOUS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units in KwaZulu-Natal have reason to celebrate.
Together, the units achieved some amazing results during March, arresting 295 suspects for sexual related offences including, rape, sexual assault, statutory rape, attempted rape, violation of a protection order, child abandonment, and child pornography.
Thirty-nine accused were convicted and sentenced in the province. Double life sentences were handed down to two accused, while the remaining offenders were given a total of 415 years’ imprisonment.
Other suspects are still in custody, waiting for their cases to be heard.
“This outcome is the result of the commitment and hard work of dedicated investigation officers. The sentences handed down will hopefully serve as a deterrent to potential rapists, letting them know in no uncertain term that the police, through its FCS units, are leaving no stone unturned,” said the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
