Ramsgate residents lambaste municipalities

Ramsgate residents are desperate for the authorities to make service delivery a priority.

UGU and Hibiscus municipalities just can’t seem to avoid the cosh, this time taking a lambasting from Ramsgate residents over poor service delivery.

Residents are warned continuously about water shortages and threatened with penalties for over-use.

Yet, when they report leaks, there is little response from Ugu.

“Many of us feel there is no point in reporting these issues to Ugu any longer,” said one resident. “The only route is to run to the press.

“There has been a leak along Marine Drive – opposite the Crayfish Inn – for about a year now.

“This has been reported to Ugu umpteen times and nothing has been done. Someone from Ugu must drive past this every day and they just blatantly ignore the problem.”

HCM also came in for a hammering.

The ‘skip’ opposite the Crayfish Inn, next to Ramsgate beachwalk, was apparently ‘in a shocking state’.

Refuse was left to pile up for weeks on end. The one-way named Clarence Road, was not adhered to by residents or holidaymakers and the road was littered with potholes.

Another resident said there were no signs indicating that this was a one-way.

“Clarence Road is also overgrown and littered with rubbish and potholes,” she said.

The Ramsgate beachwalk was rarely cleaned and a tree had fallen down ‘many moons ago’.

“Ramsgate is said to be a Blue Flag beach. Maybe they should hang a red flag for ‘danger’,”

Dustbins on certain streets have been removed and a resident’s gardener had to clean the mess weekly.

“We love our neighbourhood. We love our country – even in these harsh times. Please, municipalities, this is an eye-sore. Send the relevant departments to assess the situation urgently,” she requested.
