THE Port Shepstone police captain arrested earlier today on corruption charges has been named.
“Captain Jaychand Kannai was arrested in Port Shepstone by the Hawks,” said Hawks spokesman Lieutenant SImphiwe Mhlongo.
“Cpt Kannai was arrested after receiving a final payment of R500 from a complainant who was previously arrested for reckless or negligent driving in Port Shepstone. The amount of R1 500 was allegedly solicited from the complainant after he was promised that his case will be squashed. Cpt Kannai was intercepted after collecting the money,” said Lt Mhlongo.
The officer appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court this afternoon and was granted R 1 000 bail.
