‘Blessers’ condemned at celebration
The '16 years of a democratic local government in South Africa' was launched earlier this week.
KWAZULU-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu said that ‘blessers’ must be flushed out as they contribute to a high number of teenage pregnancies and abortions.
Mr Mchunu was speaking at the official launch of the ’16 years of democratic local government’ celebration, held at Kwa-Machi near Harding on Tuesday last week.
Blessers are rich men of any age who spoil women, ‘blessing’ them with money and expensive gifts in return for sexual favors.

Blessers are on a rampage to create havoc in our communities and they must be stopped.
Mr Mchunu also lashed out at pupils from Mdlangati High who attended the celebration, asking why they were at the function during school hours.
“I demand that, who ever is responsible for the school, be reprimanded for letting pupils out when we expect them to be at school”.
Also speaking at the function, KwaZulu-Natal Cogta MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube said that 2016 marked 16 years of democracy, which reflects on the ‘milestone travelled’ towards creating a better life for all communities.
The week-long celebrations will include showcasing and communicating achievements of the democratic government over the past 16 years by carrying the celebration flame to all the six local municipalities in the district.

Ms Dube-NcubShe said that they were aware of challenges and set backs within service delivery levels and condemned the acts of violent protests.
Communities must understand that service delivery levels in towns cannot be the same as in rural areas because of rates and taxes
The flame was then lit by Mr Mchunu and handed over to Ugu Mayor, Ntombifikile Gumede, who will hand it to all other local municipalities in the district as celebrations continue.
