Scottburgh’s ‘most wanted’ caught
A 22-year-old woman and her son - a toddler - were at their home when she heard the sounds of glass shattering.
SCOTTBURGH SAPS has reason to celebrate following the arrest of one of the town’s ‘most wanted’, plus two other suspects, all allegedly involved in the robbery of a Sir Matthew Nathan Street household earlier this month.
A 22-year-old woman and her son – a toddler – were at their home when she heard the sounds of glass shattering.
“She went to investigate and was confronted by two strangers,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer Captain Vincent Pandarum.
The woman ran back to her bedroom. They followed her and demanded money.
Fortunately, the woman’s father arrived home and the thieves fled.
A glass door had been smashed to gain entry into the property.
“The perpetrators stole the woman’s Blackberry, a Samsung Galaxy S4 as well as a Samsung tablet,” said Captain Pandarum.
“Acting on intelligence received, Warrant Officer Deena Govender teamed up with police reservists, Constables Mxolisi Ngcobo and Mbuso Gumbi, members of the Umzinto K9 Unit, Warrant Officer Kenneth Glover and Constable Kishen Giani, as well as Constables Brendon Raju and Steven Mchunu of the Scottburgh SAPS Visible Policing Unit and went to Amandawe.
“They pounced on the sleeping suspects and arrested them without meeting any resistance,” said Captain Pandarum.
Further investigations led the SAPS to another Amandawe residence where another suspect was arrested for purchasing stolen property.
Three suspects, Mbusiswa Innocent Khwela aka Magwegwe (29), Prince Msani (34) and Mondli Cele (22), appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on May 16, for being in possession of stolen property as well as house robbery.
“Prior to the house robbery case, Cele was wanted by police for five other cases and was on the Scottburgh SAPS list of most wanted suspects,” said Captain Pandarum.
The Scottburgh Cluster Detective Task Team is investigating the cases and is also checking if the arrested men have been involved in any other crimes in the area.
Cele and Msani will remain in custody until their next court appearance on May 25.
The case against Khwela has been postponed until June 8.
