Crime on increase in Uvongo

The safety forum advises residents to take extra care.

UVONGO Community Safety Forum chairman Ernest Booysen has warned residents to take extra care as Uvongo is experiencing an increase in housebreak-in activities.

“The criminals are arrogant and show no fear of being caught. They are entering properties whether the occupants are at home or not. Please take great care over the next few weeks,” he said.

He advised residents not to leave their homes without activating the alarm systems. Before going to bed at night, home owners should activate the alarm in the unoccupied parts of their houses.

“Do not leave windows and sliding doors open. Have your emergency phone numbers handy and do not hesitate to call for assistance. Report suspicious behaviour in your area. Please… we can make a difference if we stay alert and work together,” he said.

Block Watch members will be doing patrols during weekends. He urged residents who were able to help to contact Eric Labuschagne on 084 0845938 for details.

The next monthly meeting will be at the Uvongo Library Activities Room on Monday, July 11, at 5.30pm.
