UPDATE: Arson investigated in shack fire
A woman handed herself over to police.
PORT Shepstone SAPS are investigating a case of arson, after a woman believed to be in her 30s handed herself over in connection with a blaze that burnt down several informal dwellings in Mkholombe on Monday this week.
According to police spokesman, Lieutenant- Colonel Zandra Wiid, at least 22 shacks were burnt down in total.
“The woman is currently in custody pending the investigation.”
The Herald reported that it was alleged by some members of the community that a woman had threatened to set her boyfriend’s shack alight, after she apparently heard he was cheating on her.
“It is alleged that she set a dwelling alight after an argument with another person. An unlawful and intentional setting alight of immovable property case is being investigated,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
No injuries were reported.
