Burglar nabbed within minutes
The thief was caught red-handed with a variety of items.
IT was a short-lived escape from the cops for a thief who decided to rob a holiday chalet in Oslo Beach.
Constable Rishen Dhaniram, who was on duty in the Port Shepstone 10111 response vehicle, received a call about a housebreaking in North Road, Oslo Beach last Saturday.
When he arrived at the property, he was told that entry had been gained by forcing open a door. Various items had been stolen.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid, said Cst Dhaniram immediately searched the area and apprehended a man (36) not far from the scene.
“A wristwatch, wallet, cellphone and various items of clothing were found in his possession,” she said.
He was charged with housebreaking and appeared in Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on Monday this week.
The case was postponed for a formal bail application and pending further investigation.
