Update: Man found dead at police station identified
The Albersville businessman was found with a T-shirt wrapped around his neck.
MYSTERY still surrounds the death of Albersville man Dane Nair (26) who was found slumped in his bakkie, parked outside the Port Shepstone Police Station on Monday night, possibly strangled with a T-shirt.
Investigations continue and the exact cause of death has not been released yet.
Mr Nair, who recently started an aluminium and glass business, left his home on Monday at about 5pm and never returned.
His family is in a state of shock and are clueless as to what happened.
Mr Nair’s family is left with many unanswered questions. His elder sister, Rani Landsberg, said both her mother and father are struggling to come to terms with their son’s death.
“He was the sweetest and most charming brother. His death has left a void in our lives and many questions need to be answered,” she said.
“We don’t understand why the police did not inform us on that night, especially after people phoned us to say they had seen his vehicle at the police station,” she said.
The family said that Mr Nair had apparently gone to the police station the day before to report that his life was in danger.
“What became of that report we don’t know,” said Mrs Landsberg. “From what we understand, he obviously went to the police for help.
“When we arrived at the police station at about 8.30am on Tuesday we were not allowed to see my son’s body,” said grieving father, Danny Nair.
“We only saw him after the post-mortem which was conducted at about 2pm.”
“We are currently busy with in-depth forensic investigations,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
Mr Nair’s funeral will be held tomorrow (Thursday).
