Among many of the hidden gems and famous stories, the legendary wreck of a ship called the Sao Joao sits just off the coast of Port Edward. As the legend goes, Indian spices were among the cargo the Sao Joao was transporting when it sank, so, to pay homage to the legend and our area, this year’s Portuguese Festival promises to be a Mariners’ Festival with a Zulu twist and sprinkled with Indian flavour.
