Young people equipped for brighter futures

The highlight was the handover of plumbing certificates to 78 young graduates.

A construction exhibition masterclass and plumbing certification handover programme was recently held in Park Rynie for Umdoni locals.

The exhibition responded to challenges in the construction sector, including limited technical capacity and barriers to market access.

Through masterclass sessions, panel discussions and networking opportunities, the programme will equip contractors, SMMEs and the youth with tools to thrive, while showcasing modern technologies and opening doors to mentorship, funding and innovation.

The highlight of the event was the handover of plumbing certificates to 78 young graduates, all of whom have successfully completed a three-year training programme.

The programme forms part of Umdoni Municipality’s broader youth empowerment strategy, ensuring that young people are not left behind, but are placed at the forefront of development.

Mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli said that by equipping youth with practical skills, the municipality is strengthening service delivery, alleviating poverty, and driving inclusive growth, particularly in rural communities.

“This is your time. Take these skills and these opportunities and build the future of Umdoni with courage and pride,” she said.
