Pensioners’ dreams to come true

These are three sets of council owned flats in the Marburg area which were historically earmarked for occupation by pensioners.

HIBISCUS Coast Municipality is to start the process of transferring 41 of 68 units to the tenants of the council owned flats in the Marburg area.

The transfer follows the verification process and undertakings from occupants who were in arrears with their rental payments.

The municipality deemed it fit to make a transfer of the 41 units to the pensioners in terms of the Sectional Title Act 95 of 1986.

This Sectional Title Act prescribes that, immediately after the transfer, the body corporate is created automatically with the developer (council) and the first owner.

Thereafter, within 60 days of that transfer, the developer (council) must call an annual general meeting to elect trustees of the body corporate.

In this process, a minimum of two trustees must be appointed.

The units  are Erf 994 Marburg Ext.11 (Deepvale Road Flats), Erf 1053 Marburg Ext. 3 (Hibiscus Drive Flats) and Erf 1412 Marburg Ext. 14 (Venus Drive Flats).

These are three sets of council owned flats in the Marburg area which were historically earmarked for occupation by pensioners.

Spokesman for the municipality Simon April said, in light of the transfer, the municipality would investigate the remaining 27 units that were currently occupied illegally.

“The municipality feels proud that the pensioners will have the ownership of the units which will lead to better lives for people in this area,” said Mr April.
