SAPS brass band woos guests at mayoral awards
These were the last awards under the Hibiscus Coast banner.
A ROCKING live brass band, brilliant ambience and a jam-packed venue marked the last Hibiscus Coast mayoral community awards held at Margate Hotel last Thursday.
Hibiscus mayor, Councillor Cynthia Mqwebu described the event as ‘prestigious and special for all communities’ as it would be the last under the Hibiscus Coast logo.
“Because of the merger taking place, the next mayoral awards will be taking place under Ray Nkonyeni Municipality,” said Cllr Mqwebu.
In her speech, she said the awards recognise and honour those who continue to change the lives of ordinary citizens in Hibiscus Coast Municipality.
“The intention of these awards is to show appreciation and most importantly to say ‘well done’ to organisations and individuals working in local communities, often without any formal support.”
Winners in the Fine Art category, Zanele Ncane and Ndeh Nzimakwe, said this was the mayor’s way of putting her own stamp of approval and recognising groups and organisations that have made a positive contribution to improving society.
The SAPS brass band surprised guests with its excellent performance, leading with favourite classics such as The Four Seasons’ ‘Oh what a night’, South African pop group, Mafikizolo’s ‘Bhuti Nghamba nawe’ and Zahara’s famous ‘Loliwe’.
All guests, young and old, from different cultures hit the dance floor and danced the night away.
