Sea Park robbers jailed
The men bound the victims with electrical cords, ransacked the house and fled with stolen property.
TWO Sea Park robbers have been handed jail sentences totalling 35 years by the Port Shepstone Regional Court.
A domestic worker was busy cleaning at a residence in Lawrence Avenue in Sea Park on June 9, 2013 when Bheki Duma, Siyabonga Sifiso Mazubane and Sthembhele Michael Mkhize entered the room through a lounge door and was threatened her with knives and a firearm.
The homeowner’s son heard the commotion and entered the lounge shortly afterwards. He too was threatened with the firearm.
The men then bound the two with electrical cords before ransacking the house and fleeing with stolen property.
Officers from the K9 unit in Port Shepstone arrested the men not far from the scene a short while later. Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said that one of the men fired shots at the police.
Police returned fire, shooting him in the leg before arresting him.
Duma was acquitted on all charges. Mazubane was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for aggravated robbery. Mkhize was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for aggravated robbery, two years for receiving stolen property and three years for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
