Robber locks woman in cupboard
The intruder attempted to flee in the woman's car.
AFTER recent housebreakings in Pumula and Hibberdene police are warning residents to lock safety gates and doors, especially at night.
A woman (84) was woken by a noise in her house in Burma Road, Southport, last Friday.
She went to investigate, and found a man in her house.
He overpowered her and threatened her with a knife, demanding that she hand over her car keys and handbag before he locked her inside a wardrobe.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the man tried to drive away in the woman’s vehicle, but the car was found abandoned in a ditch not far from the house.
When the woman heard the intruder had left she started screaming, alerting neighbours who came to her aid.
The intruder was described as being short, light in complexion and was wearing a dark blue jacket and grey pants at the time.
