Sheppie gets a municipal makeover

The aim was to encourage everyone to help keep the town clean.

TO encourage environmental education, Hibiscus Coast Municipality held its annual  ‘Operation Sihlanza Amadolobha’ or, ‘Let’s clean up our town’, campaign in Port Shepstone recently.

“The campaign is aimed at involving the public in environmental and waste management issues,” said HCM deputy mayor, Johnny de Wet

He added that this initiative is a collective effort by municipal sections such as waste management, fire and disaster and law enforcement.

“Another objective of this project is to ensure that our towns are clean and that the public adheres to municipal by-laws. In this regard the project will cover towns from Hibberdene to Port Edward on a quarterly basis,” he added.

“Minimising waste is not just a municipal responsibility. It is our responsibility as a community because we create the waste. I urge everyone to be responsible for their actions and stop littering,” said the deputy mayor.

An educational campaign was carried out at the Port Shepstone taxi rank.
