Armed gang arrested
The three men are thought to have been involved in several local crimes.
DURBAN police have arrested three men who are believed to have targeted residents of Protea Park and Albersville last month.
Residents were under siege at their homes and businesses by organised, armed gangs, who held up families at gunpoint and with bush knives. The gang of six men was highlighted in the Herald when it went into a property with the intention of breaking into a home in Bazley.
Police officers from the Durban K9 Unit arrested the three suspects on the N2 near King Shaka International Airport on Tuesday this week.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane from the KZN media centre said the men were found in possession of unlicensed firearms. “They were also linked to other cases committed in KwaZulu-Natal,” he said.
The men are due to appear in court soon. In one of the robberies the gang took a flat screen TV, laptop, jewellery, a decoder, cellphones and money and fled in a white vehicle with a GP registration.
The men were arrested in the same car that they used locally.
