Depot is a ‘dump yard’

Disorganised and in a state of disarray would be best to describe the messy depot in Southport.

IF the Hibiscus Coast Municipal roads department got its house in order residents of Southport certainly wouldn’t point fingers.

But a recent visit to the depot in Ocean Drive North revealed a shocking state of affairs.

Nothing seems to have improved since the Herald’s last report in May. In fact, ratepayers who have invested in their properties are deeply concerned about the mess which has spilled onto the verge.

The yard is untidily strewn with equipment, road signs, discarded paint tins and other materials.

Outside on the verge lie massive concrete blocks and pipes. On arrival at the site employees were seen sitting around long before morning tea time.

June Myers, chairman of the Bendigo Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association, has desperately tried to get the yard cleaned up but has hit a brick wall. She questioned why the park home, a supposedly second office for the head of this department, is needed?

A lot of this equipment is costly and should be kept in an organised manner, so it can be used for what it was purchased for, – June Myers

Mrs Meyers said the association really would like to work with officials from the department to get the ‘eyesore’ of a yard cleaned up.

“People in the area have really invested in their properties and they have to live with this unkempt yard,” she said.

No response was received from Simon April, spokesman for Hibiscus Coast Municipality, at the time of writing.
