Meet your new municipal manager
Max Mbili takes over at Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.
HIBISCUS Coast municipal manager Max Mbili has evidently demonstrated being practical and sensible in his administrative style, following his recent appointment as the first municipal manager for the newly-formed Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.
To recap: Hibiscus Coast merged with Ezinqoleni and, through various processes, was named after struggle icon Ray Nkonyeni.
Mr Mbili, appointed by the Political Change Management Committee, had been previously given the green light by various ratepayers’ associations as being able to implement change and being willing to meet their demands halfway.
Mr Mbili took over the reins at Hibiscus Coast in March 2013 and gained support from all council members.
Born and raised at Okhalweni, ward 25 of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality under the traditional council of Inkosi Mavundla, Mr Mbili is much more familiar with the South Coast and how business operates than previous municipal managers.
He is widely known as the man who gets things done and his new appointment is effective as of Wednesday, August 10.
Mr Mbili recently obtained a master’s degree in public administration and has plans to further his studies by registering for a PhD.
The Herald spoke to Mr Mbili about his new appointment and he said he was looking forward to steering the ship that has received clean audits.
“As a result of hard work, both municipalities received a clean audit on the previous financial year, I expect the same for the next financial year.”
He urged both communities to be at ease, as he would ensure a higher level of service delivery.
“Our plan is to hold strategic planning sessions within a period of three months after the election of political office bearers in order to make plans for the new municipality available.”
