Brave women fend off spanner-wielding intruder
The women armed themselves with a golf club and a panga in an attempt to defend themselves from their attacker.
TWO women watching television in their Kelso home at lunchtime on Thursday last week were subjected to a terrifying ordeal.
Investigating a loud banging noise at their security gate, the women were confronted by an intruder who had gained entry to the house by kicking down the door.
They ordered him to leave but the intruder, armed with a spanner, began attacking the women.
He demanded money and cellphones, said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer Captain Vincent Pandarum.
The women armed themselves with a golf club and a panga in an attempt to defend themselves from their attacker.
Unfortunately, the golf club broke and the robber grabbed hold of it.
He continued to assault the women with the broken golf club, stabbing them both with the broken shaft.
Spotting the panga, the attacker attempted to grab it but the woman held onto the blade, suffering cut fingers as a result.
The man fled when one of the women threw her cellphone at him and told him they had no money.
“The suspect is being sought by the police and a case of house robbery has been registered for investigation. The case is being investigated by Detective Constable Weidon Govender of the Scottburgh Cluster Detective Task Team,” said Captain Pandarum.
