That ‘stash’ could mean jail time

STREET drugs are acknowledged as the ‘scourge of society’ and even dagga (which many feel should be legalised) is still regarded as a dangerous narcotic… until law makers decide otherwise.
Hence, police are clamping down on dagga abuse in Port Shepstone and surrounding areas.
Several arrests were made recently and large quantities of the drug confiscated.
Last Thursday afternoon, Warrant Officer Riaan Joubert and several other officers attached to the Port Shepstone 10111 call centre were patrolling on the N2 freeway near the Umtentweni off-ramp when they stopped and searched a minibus taxi.
“A 22-year-old man was arrested with 26 parcels of dagga, weighing 0.064kg with a street value of R104,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
He appeared in court on Monday and the case was postponed for further investigation.
On the same day, 10 other people were arrested during stop and search actions at the Port Shepstone taxi rank and near Louisiana.
Small quantities of loose dagga were found in their possession and they were also charged.
On Tuesday afternoon this week, officers from the K9 unit were patrolling on the N2 freeway in Shelly Beach when they noticed two men acting suspiciously. They stopped and searched them and found one with 82 parcels of dagga weighing 210 grams, wrapped in a towel.
The the other had 24 grams wrapped in a newspaper.
The street value of the dagga is about R380.
