Local art goes on display
Art by the Sea artists are exhibiting their work with a wide selection of paintings and sculptures.
ART by the Sea has been in existence for many years and is still going strong.
Over the years the art club has held many successful exhibitions at the Margate Art Museum and various other venues on the South Coast. Last Thursday many viewed the wide range of interesting artworks by local artists at the museum. Some of the artwork was on sale at the exhibition.
This year grade 11 pupils from Southcity Christian College took part in the exhibition and showcased their talent. Their work was judged and pupils won prizes sponsored by Ramsgate Stationers.
Guest speaker at the official opening, Diane Erasmus, an artist from Ramsgate, said art is a gift from God. Ms Erasmus has emerged as one of the most innovative and creative painters of her generation.
“If we don’t use it, it’s a sin,” she said. She added that everyone is capable of painting and that one should express one’s feelings and most especially enjoy painting. “One should allocate an hour every day to painting and should paint what one likes,” she said.
The art exhibition will be open to the public for a number of weeks.
Art by the Sea meets once a week and hosts workshops and demonstrations.
