Three nabbed at roadblock
The roadblock was conducted under the umbrella of 'Operation Basadi' to mark Women's Month.
THIRTY-EIGHT summonses were issued at a multi-law enforcement agency roadblock at Oribi Toll Plaza last Friday – three to people allegedly in the country illegally.
Ugu Policing Cluster commander Major General Agnes Nxamagele led a team in setting up the roadblock which was conducted under the umbrella of ‘Operation Basadi’ to mark Women’s Month.
The majority of police personnel on duty were women, but were supported by the men as well. Officers from Umzinto K9 unit, Tactical Response Team (TRT), RTI, Protection Services and VIS also helped. Vehicles were searched for drugs, illegal firearms and stolen property.
A total of 372 vehicles were checked. One vehicle, reported stolen in January , was impounded and the investigation is continuing.
A bag containing 592g of dagga was found abandoned in a taxi while a man was charged with possession of dagga (4g) and paid a fine.
