Gerhard rocks the South Coast

The former lead singer of the band 'Windpomp' has gone solo.

FORMER lead singer of South African band Windpomp, Gerhard Steyn, decided to go solo after the band’s break-up.

Gerhard is now entertaining all over the country and breaking young girls’ hearts with his warm smile and great stage personality. And it was no different at his concert at Suid-Natal High last Saturday. South Coasters flocked to the venue to see this singing superstar.

Gerhard co-wrote almost half the songs on his first album called ‘Teen Die Berg.’ Besides music, Gerhard also put his hand to acting in some of SABC2’s well-known series like ‘7de Laan (Kosie die lyfwag)’ and Frans Marx’s series ‘The Res’ (Andre die universiteit se rugby kaptein.).

He also did some freelance journalism for Vonk Magazine.

As songwriter he has worked with Dozi, Jacques de Koning, Robbie Klay, Karin Ferreira, Annel Botha and Rudi Muller and producer/artist Annel Botha.

In 2009, his own song ‘Baby Tjoklits’ won the ‘Vonk Song of the Year.’ It was also voted by Radio Rippel listeners as ‘Song of 2009.’
