By-election date announced

Harding's murdered election candidate needs to be replaced.

IT’S BACK to the polls again, following the August 3 local government elections. The date for municipal by-elections has been announced.

By-elections take place on Wednesday, November 9 across the country.

In terms of the Constitutional Court ruling of June 14, 2016, the Electoral Commission is required to implement Section 16 (3) of the Electoral Act, which requires that voters’ rolls should contain the addresses of voters, for all by-elections.

In light of this, the IEC has urged all registered voters to ensure their information is updated.

Ward 1 of Umuziwabantu Municipality in Harding will be conducting by-elections, following the murder of its election candidate.

All voting stations at Umuziwabantu will be open this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, September 17 and 18, from 8am to 5pm to allow voters the opportunity to verify and update their registration and address details.

Voters may also check and update their details at their local IEC office during office hours.

According to the IEC, special voting at voting stations, as well as home visits will take place on November 8 between 8am and 5pm. Voters interested in casting a special vote can apply at their local IEC office during office hours from October 24 to 28.

Voting at Umuziwabantu will take place in the following places:

* Mzomuhle Creche; * Ekhuza Primary; * Umzokhanyayo tent; * Mbambuye Primary ; * Mahelane High School ; * Sakhayedwa Primary and * Ecekezwa High School.
